Questions people ask
- How do I start with Community?
- Community needs no purchase or licence key. Run Scana on your own servers with Docker Compose or Helm, using your own domain and Clerk application. The install guide takes you through it. Its installer checks your settings and gives you a code to claim the install. Create your team on that install, then add an authorised target. A portal account is only for buying and managing licences.
- Where does Scana run?
- Scans run and findings are stored on your infrastructure. Licence renewal sends usage counts to this portal, never targets or findings. Optional Claude analysis sends the selected evidence to your configured AI provider, with authorisation.
- What counts as a seat?
- Each admin or operator, counted once however many teams they're in. Viewers read results but can't run scans, and they're free, so you can invite developers and trainees at no cost. Team includes 3 seats and Enterprise 5, and you can add more from the Scana portal.
- Can I test IP addresses on Community?
- Yes. Community tests domains, IP addresses and ranges. You prove you control a domain by adding a DNS record; for an IP address or range, you confirm you're authorised to test it.
- What counts as a scan?
- Each test you start: one tool, or a full security check, which counts once however many tools it runs. A scheduled scan counts each time it runs. Community includes 100 a month, and the count starts again on the 1st.
- Why would my scan wait in a line?
- Each team runs a set number of scans at once: 1 on Community and 3 on Team. Teams take turns on your install's scanners, and Home shows your place in the line as it moves.
- How does paying work?
- Team is $99 a month, or $990 a year, and Enterprise is $249 a month, or $2,490 a year. You pay in the Scana portal, which gives you a licence key for your install. If a licence runs out, Scana carries on with Community limits, and nothing is deleted.
- What if we outgrow Team?
- Team covers up to 25 systems and 50 scheduled scans. Enterprise has no limit on either, and adds 25 managed devices with the Scana Agent.
